Nintendo plans to produce at least 20 million Switch consoles in the financial year starting this April.
Digi Times reports the increase is meant to finally help meet the high demand for the console in Asia as well as meet Nintendo’s target production numbers. Nintendo is notorious for not being able to make the supply meet the demand. Which is why they plan to increace production to 2 million units per month. Due to its hybrid nature, the Switch could be seen as the ultimate replacement for both the 3DS and the Wii U
Although even with the increase in production, Nintendo Switch consoles are still short in supply in Japan and won’t be available in Taiwan until this December. The console is expected to launch in China in 2018. With the recent support of Tencent, the move to get the console in the country could be very profitable.
As far as how the increase will affect the Americas and Europe, time will tell. Although we’re hopeful for this holiday season.
