PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS Rising Popularity
So how come PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS came out of nowhere and all of a sudden became the most played game in the past four months. Well that question is answered when one looks toward the developer, Brendan Greene. Greene, known online as ‘Playerunknown’ had previously created mods for ArmA 2 and 3 called Battle Royale.
The Battle Royale mods were the basis of what Battlegrounds is today. In those mods, players parachuted down to an island where they would have to search for weapons and other equipment and eventually kill each other off. The map grew smaller and smaller and players would have to think of more creative games to beat their opponents. Greene states he was annoyed with the monotony and repetitive nature of most modern games today. In games like Counter Strike, the other player had an advantage over you because he had memorized the map. With his Battle Royale maps that never happened as players got new maps every time.
PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS Eventual Rise to Fame
Greene was later conntacted by the H1z1 developers and asked to work on a similar game mode for the game. King of the Kill was the result. This game mode gained extreme popularity and prompted produced Changham Kim of Bluehole to contact Greene. Greene states he eventually chose Bluehole because they had much of the same vision he had with the Battle Royale mods
PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS was eventually made from the ground up with original assets and everything. It was put up on Steam’s Early Access from where it rocketed to popularity. The game even took League of Legend’s top spot as best game on Twitch.
The reason behind the games popularity is very simple. It was envisioned by a man who was not blinded by the gaming industry’s standards. He took a concept and fleshed it out over a few years to eventual fruition. He took what made games like DayZ and H1Z1 so fun and employed his own unique twist to it.
In PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS you parachute onto an 8×8 km map and locate guns and other resources to kill other players. You can choose to form small teams or go solo- up to you. But whatever you do, last man standing wins.
The game is still in Early Access and continues to gain popularity.
PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS FPS Server
Greene just announced that with the next monthly update, Bluehole will introduce a first person only server. The game normally allows players to switch between first and third person view. Bluehole has also stated that the first person view will be drastically improved with the update.
